Bonaire Resources is a unique travel guide with clarity, humour, insider's knowledge and a sustainable focus covering everything from lodging and car rentals to scuba diving and windsurfing. The intention is to provide easy navigation, organised lists and helpful information on the little gem sparkling in the Caribbean Ocean we call Bonaire. We are based on Bonaire and therefore provide all the little nuggets of insider knowledge including local tips. Being passionate nature and conservation enthusiasts we also try to encourage 'alternative living' (local/organic produce, body health, spa/fitness, medicine), local shopping and sustainable tourism. Bonaire has a reputation for being one of the most environmentally minded islands in the Caribbean so help raise awareness and tread lightly.

Bonaire is part of the Caribbean Netherlands in the territory known as the 'BES' islands (Bonaire, Saint Eustatius, Saba). Check out 'quick facts' for more bits and pieces. It lies 30 miles from Curacao and 50 miles north of Venezuela. It has the advantage of being outside the Caribbean hurricane belt and enjoys a delicious sunny climate, hence you can usually wear your flip flops, shorts and T-shirt all day. Al fresco dining included! Being just north of the equator Bonaire usually enjoys daylight for 12 hours. The atmosphere is laid back - almost to the point of lying horizontally - so leave your worries behind.

So it's safe, sunny and serene but what do you do there? Head to the sea! With lapis lazuli blues and emerald greens waiting for you at an average temperature of 78-84°F or 25.6-28.9°C it's an invitation you can't refuse. There is a plethora of water activities but Bonaire is most famous for its world class scuba diving, snorkeling and windsurfing (champions train on Bonaire because the conditions are so ideal). There is also kite boarding, kayaking, sailing, fishing and much more.

Don't worry if you're more of a land dweller, there is still plenty to do on Bonaire. For the adventurous there is mountain biking, hiking or landsailing. For those who like heights (or depths) you can go flying, climbing or cave exploring. If you're in more of a vacation mood go shopping for local Bonairean art, jewelry or souvenirs. Eat at the array of restaurants who will have you salivating on the Bonairean, American, Indonesian, Italian and Peruvian delights. After you've had your lion's share why not hit the the buzzing night life or evening entertainment.

Alternatively explore the island on a car rental, scooter/bicycle rental or land/water taxi with the fresh sea breeze brushing your skin. Go sightseeing with your car rental, traverse national parks, learn about the flora and fauna or just bask in the sun on the many sparkling beaches. Maybe the rich history and culture tickle your fancy? How did this island come about anyway?

Or take the plunge without getting wet and tie the knot in one of the few places it's unlikely to rain on your special day! There's a lot to do despite the small size and population of Bonaire. A tour operator can help if you're thinking about a package deal.

Now all you need is accommodation and lodging - unless you want to be awakened by the footsteps of local donkeys! There are recommended accommadations such as apartments and condos, villas and bungalows, hotels and resorts.
